I am currently a second-year student at the Dental College of Georgia, beginning clinical rotations, with a plan to partner in a private practice upon graduation from dental school.
Pursuing a degree in Biology from Georgia Tech has aided immensely both in my professional academic pursuits, and life in general. Within my dental program, I have found countless instances where my prior biological training has lended itself to the exact material being covered in my current studies. By having such a firm knowledge base from Georgia Tech, I have found myself being able to more readily understand the information presented, as well as dive deeper into the instructed content and similar evidence-based dentistry research. Outside of the classroom, my time at Georgia Tech and the School of Biological Sciences allowed me to grow in my approach to leadership and service, developing personal characteristics that have aided both in connecting with patients and the world around me.
If I were to provide only one word to guide prospective GT Biology students, it would be "Explore". I believe Georgia Tech provides one of the world's best opportunities of exploration - both in yourself and your values, your personal ambitions, the world of biological science, the amazing research constantly being conducted, the city of Atlanta, various cultures of the world, connecting with peers, new interests, and truly identifying your passion. Through the time spent at Georgia Tech, growing daily in pursuit of your goals, and lifting up the community around you in the process, students are able to graduate with an immense sense of pride and appreciation for their time as a student in the School of Biological Sciences.
I firmly believe that a degree in Biology from Georgia Tech provides students with not only a firm understanding of Biological and other General Sciences, but also a firm understanding on how these studies may intersect with other fields in order to obtain a more broad-focused and interdisciplinary view. I definitely recommend each and every student take advantage of the various opportunities both the School of Biology and Georgia Tech as a whole provide. Whether or not students desire to pursue a graduate-level program upon graduation, I firmly believe the Georgia Tech School of Biological Sciences provides the best possible support for students to be successful in their endeavors- proudly proclaiming "I'm a Ramblin' Reck from Georgia Tech and a Helluva Biologist"!
