About Me:

I graduated in December of 2016. I then joined the U.S. Peace Corps serving as a Health Volunteer in Nicaragua, Central America. Following my Peace Corps service, I became a High School Biology teacher. Now, I will be matriculating into medical school in August at the Medical College of Georgia.

Earning a Biology degree from Georgia Tech truly improved my tenacity, confidence in my ability to problem solve, and allowed me to connect with a community of students that were so passionate and driven not only about earning good grades but using their skills and experiences to make the world a better place. As a future medical student, I know that those qualities I grew in will be integral each day. While at Georgia Tech, I, also, had the opportunity to study and work abroad, participate in research, and become involved in service opportunities. As a Peace Corps Volunteer, the experiences I had abroad  were helpful as they had given me cultural competency, language skills, and professional experience that was applicable to my project planning and service.

My Advice:

There are so many options as a Biology major at Georgia Tech. I have always loved that you can tailor the major to your own interests and goals.I encourage anyone considering a Biology Degree to research the various "tracks" that are available for example the research option , the business option, the pre-health  track etc. You can really make this major your own so that when future employers or graduate institutions are looking at your degree it is truly reflective of what you are excited about.

You can do it! Georgia Tech can be intimidating because of its awesome reputation, but the staff and faculty in the School of Biological Sciences are so supportive and helpful and they want to see you succeed. Just make sure to ask for help when you need it and seek mentorship.
