After graduating from Georgia Tech, I started as a PhD student in Dartmouth's Molecular and Cellular Biology program. I am being advised by Carey Nadell and am currently using theory and microscopy to study mechanisms that underlie diversity in bacterial biofilms. After completing my PhD at Dartmouth, I hope to go on to a postdoc and eventually a faculty position.
At Georgia Tech I was able to take mixed undergraduate/graduate courses as upper level biology electives and complete two years of undergraduate research under the supervision of Peter Yunker and William Ratcliff. Having this coursework and research experience not only prepared me for the demands of graduate school, but also allowed me to define my research interests before applying to graduate school.
In addition to taking advantage of the fantastic electives and research opportunities, make sure to schedule time for fun and get involved in activities outside of the classroom. There are a lot of great student run clubs on campus that can provide an outlet and a sense of community.
