About Me:

I am going into my third year of veterinary school at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. After I graduate in 2021 I plan to complete a 1 year internship at an equine hospital. I am open to interning in both a private practice and academic setting. After that I plan on becoming an ambulatory equine veterinarian and focusing on sports medicine and performance horses. I don't know where I would like to live but hopefully I will end up in the south east or California.

My biology degree requirements prepared me for professional school because it is not like most other pre-vet courses of study. It made me diverse and also helped with my communication and teamwork skills. I also took more science courses than most prerequisite requirements but that was nice because I had better science fundamentals than most of my other classmates in veterinary school. Additionally, Tech is challenging, but this was good because it made the transition into vet school much easier. In vet school we take 22-24 credits a semester and balancing my course work along with being an athlete at Tech made me very prepared to jump right into vet school. The time management skills I learned at Tech allow me to work three part-time jobs, get good grades, and be very involved both academically and socially at Auburn.

My Advice:

I think it is important to keep all options open. I didn't know how much I could do with a bio degree until I started attending career fairs and doing some more research on other career possibilities. I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian, but I also knew I should have a backup plan if I didn't get into veterinary school. Completing both the research option and business option at Tech opened up additional opportunities and also made my application for vet school stand out. I realized adding a minor or doing something like the research and/or business option didn't add too many credits to my degree requirements and opened up more opportunities than I would have had before.

You should also know that everyone at GT wants you to succeed. I was a little intimidated at first because I thought classes were competitive and the professors were too busy to answer my questions, but that was not the case at all. Once I attended office hours and started studying in groups I did much better in school and built some great relationships with professors and classmates.
