Educational Experience:
Ph.D., Biology, Latvian Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, Riga, former USSR, 1991., B.S., Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics, former USSR, 1987., B.S., Physical Education, Central Institute of Physical Culture, Moscow, former USSR, 1978.
Research Interests:
Neural control and biomechanics of movement, locomotion, reaching, bone-anchored limb prostheses with neural interface
Overview:
The research focus of the laboratory is Neural Control and Biomechanics of Movement. We study how the nervous system controls hundreds of muscles and kinematic degrees of freedom of the body to produce purposeful motor behaviors and how the neural control of motor behaviors is affected by neural and musculoskeletal injuries.
