Matthew Nusnbaum joined the Biological Sciences and Neuroscience faculty at Georgia Tech in August 2023. He earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Georgia State University where he studied the mechanisms of chemical defenses acting on predator olfactory and gustatory systems. Prior to arriving at Georgia Tech, Matthew taught in the Biology Department at Georgia State for over 10 years, focusing on active learning, high-impact practices and program development.
At Georgia Tech, Matthew teaches in the Neuroscience Undergraduate Program, contributing to the introductory principles of neuroscience course, human neuroanatomy, and upper level elective neuroscience courses, and directs the introductory neuroscience lab. He is also the Director of Extended Academic Programs in neuroscience, which includes the undergraduate neuroscience minor, international plan, and an anticipated M.S. degree in neuroscience. Matthew also serves as one of the academic advisors in the Neuroscience program and is interested in innovations in TA training and professional development. His current research interests include the impact of active learning and other high impact practices (HIPs) on students' learning, sense of belonging, retention, and progression into STEM fields.
