I am currently attending the Medical College of Georgia, working towards my career goals to become a physician. Upon graduating medical school in 2025, I plan to pursue a residency in pediatrics followed by a fellowship in hematology/oncology.
Medicine is an interdisciplinary field with focuses on science, innovation, and teamwork — aspects that are interwoven in the Biology curriculum at Tech. The rigor and content of the core biology classes and biology electives such as Immunology and Cancer Biology gave me a solid foundation for my pre-clerkship studies in medical school. However, the Tech Biology program taught me not to memorize facts but how to apply my knowledge and synthesize the information, taking it one step further. As students, we were consistently encouraged to be innovative on class assignments and projects. Working together with my peers as a team, reading scientific literature, and problem-solving furthered my analytical and collaborative skills. Applying scientific concepts and synthesizing information as an individual and as part of a team is an integral skill in medicine and in patient care, and I can definitively say that my Biology Degree had instilled those skills in me, preparing me for my future career as a doctor.
Georgia Tech is a place filled with opportunities and flexibility. Your Tech Biology degree is fully customizable to your interests and professional goals through your classes, minors, certificates, research, and work experiences. During my time as a Biology major at Tech, I was able to get involved in the Biology Teaching Assistant program, obtained my first publication in my organic chemistry research and got involved in various organizations across campus such as Student Government and Miracle. Whether you want to pursue a career in medicine, research, academia, or public health, the options are limitless, and the faculty and advisors in the Tech Biology department are an amazing network for guidance and support throughout your time at Tech. Graduating with a Biology Degree from Georgia Tech is a testament of your intellect and work ethic, an achievement recognizable across the country, holding weight in medicine, academia, and industry.
College is also a pivotal time in our life, a time of self-growth and discovery. Take time outside of the classroom and pursue your interests and hobbies. Going to school in Midtown ATL provides immense professional and career opportunities but also is a great place to try new foods, music, and art. Explore the city! During this chapter in your life, you will find yourself challenged in different ways inside and outside of the classroom, but the memories, resilience, skills, and relationships you build throughout your time at Tech will be the ones you cherish after you graduate.
